Evil Comes in Pairs in First Trailer for ‘The Exorcist: Believer’

Written by Matt Rodriguez

The Exorcist remains one of the most iconic and scary horror movies of all time. While there have been multiple sequels, prequels, and even a television series, none have captured the same feeling of terror quite the like original. The Exorcist: Believer is a direct sequel to the original 1973 film, and its first trailer heavily calls back to its origins, doubling down with a pair of possessed children.

What makes The Exorcist: Believer different than all the other sequels is that is marks the return of Ellen Burstyn as Chris MacNeil, an actress who has been forever altered by what happened to her daughter Regan. It’s been 50 years, and she returns to help the families of two daughters who have become possessed by a demon. So far Burstyn is the only returning actor from the original. Her and the spine-tingling piano score, that is. Believer is scheduled to be the first of a planned trilogy of films in the franchise.

Directed by David Gordon Green, The Exorcist: Believer releases in theaters on October 13, 2023.
