You guessed it, Sue. Principal Sue decides to ban al lthe bad food i nthe cafeteria, including Mercedes favorite... tatertots. Why they gotta make the fat chick be pissed about the food? They strive to make the show accepting of gays and open minded and then send the fat chick on a crusade to get tater tots back in the cafeteria? Seems kinda tired to me. I guess they thought it would be ok because the underlying reason is she's trying to fill the void that Kurt left when he decided to spend more time with his new friend Blaine. Oh sure they invite her out but then talk amonst themselves and all she hears is "gay gay gay gay. gay gay gay?" "gay gay, gay gay gay gay!"

Meanwhile, cool teacher is letting the Glee club do up-to-date songs, including Cee Lo Green's "F**k You", which, wow, for all her meloncholy and sad eyes, Gwyenth can sing! Who knew? I was really surprised, seriously I'd consider using the phrase "taken aback". Rachel confesses she's always wanted to do something glam, so the pair take to the stage in red and with gatling guns to sing "Nowadays / Hot Honey Rag" from Chicago. Great performance, crappy dancing but excellent singing nonetheless. I found myself smiling while I watched. But that could be because I *really* like Chicago.

When Sue's dietary changes and general douchery goes over well with the parents, Figgins is fired and Sue's first act is to fire Will. But when Sue realizes cool teacher let Mercedes put tater tots in her gas tank, cool teacher realizes she can't do this and asks Will back. Before she leaves, she shows Mr. Shue that Glee club doesnt just have to be about old songs "classics" and Journey, by doing a mashup of Singin in the Rain and Rhianna's Umbrella, which I did not like AT ALL. It was kinda cheesy and I hate people who eff with Frank.

All in all, I really didnt like this episode. It felt kinda pointless and rushed to me, it also felt like "hey we need a cameo! uhhhhmmm oh! lets get Gwyneth Paltrow... annndddd she can be a sub and be cool". I don't know, not the best Glee episode. It focused more on the adults. barely anything that had to do with the kids, i mean thats what the show is about right? Glee club, not crazy ex wife. Frankly, Sue Sylvester being douchy in EVERY episode is quite tiring as well. They took an occassional funny thing and killed it putting it in several scenes in EVERY episode, and now she has a sidekick who can be just as douchy.

Next week on Glee....

Carol Burnett guest stars as Sue's Nazi hunting mother.

Tags:

Gwyneth Paltrow

Glee

Chicago

sue sylvester

Jane Lynch

Matthew Morrison

flu

Fri, 19 Nov 2010 03:33:03 +0000 Sari Meltzer 393 at http://shakefire.com http://shakefire.com/blogs/sari-meltzer/2010/11/18/glee-s2e7-the-substitute#comments Glee S2E6 - Never Been Kissed http://shakefire.com/blogs/sari-meltzer/2010/11/11/glee-s2e6-never-been-kissed

Glee S2E6 - Never Been Kissed

Music and singing was really in the background this episode, the main focus was Kurt and his newfound friends and with it, the courage to stand up to bullying. There were a couple subplots; Puck is back and taking Artie under his wing and teaching him the ways to Juvie and the kids find a new way to "cool down" with their respective partners. When faced with the frustration of Quinn not putting out, Finn lets Sam in on his little cool down method. Think of something so horrible that it breaks the mood. In Finn's case, its the time he hit a mail carrier with his car. Sam finds that picturing Coach Bieste in compromising positions and clothing gets the job done so he lets others in the Glee club in on his new finding.

This all comes to a head when they start telling Coach Bieste to stay away from their boyfriends/girlfriends. This prompts Mr. Shue to ask Sam whats going on and is appalled. He tells them to stop, that what they're doing is horrible and if Coach Bieste ever found out it would be devestating. Well, Coach Bieste eventually asks Mr. Shue whats up and feeling like its the right thing to do, he tells her. Coach Bieste quits and Sue gets her confetti cannons back. Meanwhile, Kurt is sick and tired of all the gay jokes and harrassment so half spying he goes to a rival all boys school where he meets Blaine.

Instantly smitten, Kurt opens up to Blaine about what he deals with and that gives him the courage to stand up to his bully wheres he met by an unexpected yet expected kiss (you can't be THAT homophobic if you dont got a little gay in ya).

On to Puck. Fresh out of Juvie, Puck's community service is working with a handicapped person. He shows Artie how to hustle, by singing One Love

and bullying people into throwing money into the guitar case, generally be a jerk to women and dine and dash (Artie ends up paying anyway). When Puck is faced with going back to juvie or pick up trash on the side of the highway, he confesses to Artie how much he hated juvie. So Artie makes him a deal, if Puck picks up trash he'll tutor him in Geometry. Coach Bieste confesses to Will that she's not a lesbian and she's never been kissed. So he kisses her

and tells her to come to the auditorium where the guys sing her a mashup of Free Your Mind and Stop in the Name of Love. And thats pretty much it... oh, the girls sang Livin' on a Prayer.

This was a great episode, tackling a lot of issues teenagers face everyday. It was nice to have a Kurt centric episode that wasnt overly stereotypical.

Next Week on Glee....

Fri, 12 Nov 2010 03:01:57 +0000 Sari Meltzer 389 at http://shakefire.com http://shakefire.com/blogs/sari-meltzer/2010/11/11/glee-s2e6-never-been-kissed#comments Glee S2E5 - Rocky Horror Glee Show http://shakefire.com/blogs/sari-meltzer/2010/10/30/glee-s2e5-rocky-horror-glee-show

"...at the late night double feature (Rocky Horror) Glee Show, by RKO (RK Who?) Oh oh ohhhhhh"

YES! The Rocky Horror Glee Show!!! It's finally here and it was EXCELLENT!! Although not at all like I thought it was going to be.
The entire reasoning behind the Glee club doing Rocky Horror is jealousy. Emma tells Mr. Shue about the fabulous night she and Carl had at Rocky Horror at this disgusting theater. Oh the jealousy so he interrupts her story to announce the club is doing Rocky Horror. Meanwhile Sue is scheming for a local Emmy by trying to become part of the show, by no other than....

BRAD AND EDDIE! Yes, Barry Bostwick (Brad) and Meatloaf (Eddie) make a cameo as part of a local radio station. By the way, bst pumpkin ever!

So Sue convinces Mr. Shue to let her be part of the musical as the criminologist. Meanwhile, Asian guy's parents pull him from being Franknfurter so Mr. Shue tells Sue the musical is off. Mercedes comes through and plays Franknfurter, and Carl comes in to play Eddie in a very nice rendition of Hot Patootie.

So, on to dress rehersal. Wow... Mercedes as Franknfurter and modernization of Sweet Transvestite. Probably her best number yet.

After dress rehearsal Mr. Shue decides that he will play Rocky and asks Emma to help him rehearse Toucha Toucha Toucha Touch Me. Very slimy move to get close to Emma.

Finn - who is very self conscience about his body, decides to pump his self confidence by walking down the hallway at school in his boxers and Brad glasses and in turn gets a month suspension, which Mr. Shue gets down to just a warning. But the prinicipal asks him to think about the reasons behind him doing this and if putting his job and the club in jeopardy is worth it. Back to dress rehearsal, Carl confronts Mr. Shue about the crappy thing he did to Emma. Then after he sees a tape that Sue was planning on airing opening night about Rocky Horror and how terrible it is and their tax dollars blah blah blah he finally decides to pull the show from doing it in front of an audience and instead, since they all worked so hard and Rocky Horror was originally a place that those who didnt belong could go and find unity, he does the show but only for themselves.

Best Lines

Kurt (to Brittany): What are you going as for Halloween?
Brittany: I'm going as a peanut allergy

Finn: I have no idea what's going on and not in a cool Inception kinda way

Sam: Ain't no carpool lane to sexy

Becky: Give me some chocolate or I will cut you

Whos lips were those? he has a fabulous voice (and hair, "but the Bieber cut's gotta go"). Foreign exchange student Sunshine Corazon (Charice), sings “Listen” from Dream Girls and instantly wow’s the club, much to the dismay of Rachel. We’re also introduced to the new football coach, who happens to be female, Shannon Bieste (sounds like beast but spelled “B-E-I-S-T-E, it’s French”) (Dot Jones). Coach Bieste is a winning football coach and the plan is to bring in more alumni money, which is why she was hired.

We start off the season with budget cuts to Glee Club and the Cheerios to fund the football department and its new coach. Sue, Will and Shannon become instant enemies, Sue and Will band together to pull pranks on Shannon and be generally “Sue-ish” to her in the attempt to get her to quit/get fired and they get their budgets back. Will goes along until Sue brings Brittany into the principal’s office to report sexual harassment on Coach Beiste. This is his breaking point and he reminds Brittany that this is a serious accusation, to which Brittney replies “I made it up, she didn’t touch my boobs. I actually wanted to touch hers”. I love Brittany; almost everything that comes out of her mouth is absolutely hilarious. After that Will apologizes to Coach Beiste for his behavior.

Mr. Shue and New Directions need to recruit more people so they have a chance at Nationals this year. Since Nationals is in New York this year, they decide to take to the courtyard in spontaneous dance/sing style and rap/sing to Jay-Z’s Empire State of Mind (which, btw, is an AWESOME song). This is where Finn eyeballs Sam “dude your mouth is huge” Evans tapping his foot and bobbing his head and Rachel see’s Sunshine singing along. Unfortunately this is about the only response they get, which is surprising because if a bunch of white people just started rapping and dancing to Jay-Z, I think I’d stop to watch, just sayin. So Finn and Rachel ask each to audition. Rachel sends Sunshine to a crack house after a bathroom rendition of Lady Gaga’s Telephone which is interrupted by Sue walking in and telling them to shut up. Probably the 2nd funniest scene lol. Sam pre auditions with Travie McCoy’s Billionaire and is by far the best guy voice they’ve had on the show thus far. After Will decides to defy Sue in public, she invokes revenge by recording Sunshine’s audition of Listen from Dream Girls and sending it to Vocal Adrenaline where she is wooed with gifts and a green card for her mother and transfers. In an attempt to get his girlfriend back, Artie tries to join the football team, Finn tries to help him join and is kicked off the team by coach Beiste thinking it’s a joke and after all the crap Sue and Will put her through, she’s not having it. This turn of events prompts Sam to not audition afterall and New Directions is now back to square one. Quinn is back as head cheerleader when Santana is demoted due to a boob job over the summer and Brittany spent the summer "lost in the sewers".
And that’s what you missed on last week’s episode of Glee.

Upcoming:
We know next week’s episode will be all Britney Spears songs, oy. But the name of the episode is Britney/Brittany, so this may turn out to be very interesting!! Brittany doing Britney (no pun intended, ok, maybe a little pun was intended) this will be awesome! We’ve all wanted to see more of Brittany, shes freakin hilarious! And now she gets to dress as the slutty school girl and dance around, this has Brittany written all over it. Here are the songs that will be performed:
- Toxic
- I’m a Slave 4 U
- Stronger
- Me Against the Music
- Baby One More Time
So I realize all the actors are over 18, but they’re portraying 17 yr old, its kinda pervy, right?

Upcoming Episodes names, Songs and Guest Speculations:
Episode 3 - Grilled Cheesus
- Papa, Can You Hear Me - The one and only Barbra
- Losing My Religion - REM (one of my all time faves)
- One of Us - Joan Osborne
- Something from Aretha Franklin

Episode 4 - Duets
- River Deep - Mountain High - Ike and Tina Turner
- Get Happy/Happy Days Are Here Again - Judy Garland and Barbra
(I can't believe theres only 2 songs in this ep)

Episode 5 - TBA (ROCKY HORROR! ITS ROCKY HORROR TIME!!!!
Perhaps we'll see Barbra guest star since her songs are featured in a couple episodes? I'm hoping Tim Curry will show up for the Rocky Horror one or even Susan Sarandon, although I hear she doesn't like to talk about her Rocky Horror days...
Michael Stipe would be a pleasant surprise!

Confirmed guest stars are
- Neil Patrick Harris
- Molly Shannon
- Joss Whedon (paging Sheree, paging Sheree)
- Britney Spears (next episode)
- Carol Burnett (Loooove it!!)
- Gwyneth Paltrow
Rumored guest stars are
- Jennifer Lopez
- Madonna
- Adam Lambert
- Justin Timberlake
Who would you like to see on Glee? I would LOVE to see Julie Andrews (who didn’t see that one coming lol) <3. What would you like to see? I don't think I blinked the entire time I was watching. I was enthralled with the viral aspect of LOST, the clues that led to websites that had easter eggs in the source code. It was fantastic and I've loved every minute of the 6 year journey. The last episode was an event this past Sunday that started at 7pm EST, with a "LOST Journey". We heard from the cast and writers and we even heard from the fans. I was excited and sad at the same time. I will really miss the anticipation and the confusion, the discovery andthe surprises. But most of all I think I'll miss the obsession; what was the hatch? Holy shit! Locke was in a wheelchair! Whats the smoke monster? A freaking polar bear? I don't believe he's Henry Gale and refusing to call him Ben, instead calling him Benry. Who are the "others"? DONT TRUST JULIET! and Charlie - Not Pennys Boat. I'll miss the endless internet searching for the Egyption 4 toed goddess and trying to figure out what language they're speaking. Has there been another show so intense throughout the world thats captivated millions of people, and led to dozens of sites dedicated to posting theories and observations? I'm not sure, but in all my 32 years I have never been addicted to a show as I was to LOST.It's been a fun ride, nothing will ever come close to the awesomeness that is, that was LOST.

Since everyone who cares anything about the show knows how it ends, I dont need to describe the episode. If you missed it or you havent watched it, then I have no idea why you're reading this. Yes, there are spoilers, so stop if you havent watched it yet. Cuse and Lindeloff had a choice; wrap up the islands mysteries or wrap up the characters lives. They chose the latter. In this case I was let down. All those questions, all those scenes deliberately focused on, the ones that made me and everyone else wonder are still leaving us wondering. Walt and Aaronwere supposed to be special, why were babies and pregnant women dying in childbirth, what happened to Richard, why couldn't the Man in Black leave, what exactly was the "heart of the island" besides a little pool that was plugged by a giant stone cork, and probably the most pertanant question, what is the island? Even if you cared more about the characters stories you're still missing out. the flash sideways was virtually a do over as if the island never existed; there to comfort everyone until they were ready to remember. Ok, I'll admit it; when Juliet and Sawyer had their moment of clarity I was on the verge of tears. I don't cry at tv shows or movies, to date i've cried at 2 movies; Steel Magnolias, the scene where Sally Field's charecter breaks down after the funeral of her daughter and Schindlers List... but come on, you'd have to be a monster if you didnt get choked up when Liam Neisson breaks down thinking he didn't do enough to help. Yet I found myself welling up like a little girl. It was nice to know that Hurley ends up with Libby, That Jin and Sun are reunited but that faded and quickly raised more questions... So this world, how exactly did they create it? Why did they create it where it was so hard to "let go" and where did they go? heaven? So was the flash do over purgatory? Did Cuse and Lindeloff find a loophole out? Oh the ISLAND isnt purgatory but we never said it had nothing to do with purgatory. The journey of the last season, finally revealing what/who Jacob was and what he was doing on theisland was completely pointless because it NEVER explained any of it! The end of season 5 and all of season 6 meant nothing. Why bring a charecter into theplot and then just not answer anything about that. For years we heard Jacob this and Jacob that; we've seen the smoke monster for years and when its finally revealed to be Jacobs brother, it doesnt even explain HOW he became Smokey.

I understood what happened in the finale and I'm done wondering. As far as I know, there wont be answers to our questions. Thats it. Done. Sure, it had a unwhelming and frustrating finish, but we still read Stephen King books right? The ending may suck and leave us upset, but the journey was spectacular.

So here is my "last transmission":
Writers, producers and cast of LOST, thank you for 6 years of miracles, hatred, terror, sadness, obsession and the way Desmond says "brotha". Locke was always my favorite from day 1, thanks for not selling him out. :)

Do you have a Last Transmission? Let me hear it.

Sat, 29 May 2010 01:45:11 +0000 Sari Meltzer 312 at http://shakefire.com http://shakefire.com/blogs/sari-meltzer/2010/05/28/lost-season-6-the-end#comments Lost Season 6 Episode 16 - What They Died For http://shakefire.com/blogs/sari-meltzer/2010/05/21/lost-season-6-episode-16-what-they-died-for

We open with a familiar scene, the eye of Jack Shepard, this has been a recurring theme throughout the series. In the flash sideways, Jack wakes up with a slight neck wound and Claire is now living with him and David. Desmond calls Jack impersonating someone from Oceanic that they found his fathers coffin. He sounded really weird with an American accent. On the Island we pick up where we left off after the destruction of the submarine.

Jack agrees with Kate that they have to kill MIB/Locke. Back in the flash we see Desmond waiting at the school again when Ben approachs him trying to protect Locke. Desmond tells Ben he's not here to hurt Locke, he's here to help him let go. Thats when Ben asks him who he is and Desmond proceedes to beat the snot out of him; this gives Ben a vision of another time when he was being beaten by Desmond.

Back on the Island, Ben, Miles and Richard are on quest back to his old house to get C4 to blow up the plane,

they're interrupted by Zoe and Widmore. Apparently Jacob showed Widmore the error of his ways and now he's good. hmmmm. Back in the flash, Desmond turns himself in to Sawyer and Miles and they put him into lockup where he's in a cell with Sayid and next to the cell holding Kate.

Back on the Island, Jack and Sawyer are going to get Des out of the well, when Sawyer has a mini breakdown and feels he is to blame for Jin and Sun. Poor Sawyer, what a blow to his confidence. Hurley see's kid Jacob and he asks for his ashes back. Hurley hands them over and Jacob takes off running. Hurley follows only to see big Jacob. (he put the ashes in the fire, when the fire burns out, Jacob will be gone forever).

Back at Ben's house, Miles runs, Widmore and Zoe hide. Ben stays and Richard thinks he can talk to him. Smokey grabs Richard by the neck and throws him. Locke comes up to Ben and tells him he needs him to kill some people. Then Ben rats out Widmore and shows him where they're hiding. In the flash, Alex invites Ben over for dinner. Looks like sparks are flying between Danielle and Ben.

Back on the Island, Locke goes into the room Widmore and Zoe are hiding in. Locke turns to Zoe and asks who she is, as she's answering Widmore tells her not to speak, so Locke slits her throat.

When Widmore asks why, he says "you told her not to talk to me, that made her pointless". Locke asks why he came back, and Widmore came back and if he didnt tell him he would kill his daughter, Penny. So as Widmore is telling Locke (whispering so we cant hear -.-), Ben shoots Widmore and says "he doesn't get to save his daughter".
sawyer, Jack, Kate & Hurley gather around the fire and they all can see Jacob as he explains why Jin, Sun & Sayid died. Back in the Flash, Locke goes to see Jack and basically tells Jack that all this isnt a coincedence, the same flight, he was his doctor when he was run over, that it's fate. Sounds like Island Locke :) ah, the nostalgia. Back on the Island, Jacob is telling the story of his brother and why he chose them. He chose them because they were all like him, alone, not happy. He crossed Kate's name off the wall because she became a mother. He tells them about the light and asks to volunteer to become the protector of the Island. Jack volunteers and we see the same type of ritual that we saw Jacobs mother perform for Jacob and he tells him where the heart of the Island is. Jack is now like Jacob was. Best line of the night is by Sawyer "And I thought he had a God complex before". ha!

Back in the Flash Kate, Des and Sayid are being sent off to County lockup. In the truck, Des tells them to trust him when the truck stops. He says when the truck stops they have to do him a favor. They both agree, thinking Des is crazy. the truck stops, the door opens and yay, Anna Lucia (anyone else think Michelle Rodriguez is a little typecast?). Up pulls Hurley with the money for Anna Lucia and Des asks Sayid to go with Hurley and Kate's with him and the Camero. they're going to a concert, I'm assuming DriveShaft to get Charlie. Apparently Hurley knows everything because he notices Anna Lucia and Des tells him she's not ready to go. Back on the Island, Locke tells Ben that he is going to destroy the Island by using Desmond.

So the deathtoll continues to rise, bubye Widmore and Zoe. I wonder if Richard is dead though. Jacob made Richard like him, he is unable to kill himself, is Smokey able to? hmmm.

2 days guys and girls... 2 days and the end of a wonderful 6 year journey begins...

Fri, 21 May 2010 19:45:51 +0000 Sari Meltzer 308 at http://shakefire.com http://shakefire.com/blogs/sari-meltzer/2010/05/21/lost-season-6-episode-16-what-they-died-for#comments Lost Season 6 Episode 15 - Across The Sea http://shakefire.com/blogs/sari-meltzer/2010/05/15/lost-season-6-episode-15-across-the-sea

Finally we see some background story of Jacob and MIB. So they were brothers, unexpected twins of their mother Claudia whos ship crashed on the island and was bludgeoned to death as soon as she gave birth by a protector on the island. Claudia gives birth and names him Jacob, unexpectedly she was pregnant with twins and when she delievers the second baby, she said "I only picked one name"... dammit!! the woman kills Claudia and raises the babies as her own. She leads them to believe they are the only people and this is the only land, there is "nothing across the sea". Jacob is really a mama's boy, never lying, always listening and taking what she says at face value. Jacob's brother, KIB (kid in black, we never find out his name) is a skeptic. She tells them there are no people, but one day KIB and Jacob are hunting a bore and they find people, I assume the people who were on the same ship as their birth mother. They start asking questions and she takes them to the place they are protecting... light? uh, ok. She says they're never to go in there, that it would be worse than death. One day Jacob and KIB are playing a game when KIB see's the woman who gave birth to them. She leads him to the people who were on the ship so in the night KIB wakes up Jacob and asks him to come along and Jacob starts beating KIB up. KIB leaves, Jacob stays.

20ish years later... Jacob looks like the Jacob we all know and love, and he goes to visit MIB and he tells him about how metal acts "strange" in certain places on the island. And in those placesthey dig and this time they found a way off the island. Mommy visits MIB and he shows her what he found... the "light". She knocks him out. She goes back and leads Jacob to the "light" where she gives him some wine and passes the burden of protecing the light to him. When MIB finally comes to, he finds all of his people killed and the hole filled in. Furious, he stomps back to Jacob and mom and stabs her. Jacob throws his brother in the lake, knocking him out
and his body floats into the "light". His body gets sucked in and out comes Smokey. Jacob, not seeming too concerned about the crazy controlled smoke that just flew past him, takes his brother and mother and lays them side-by-side in the cave... Adam and Eve.

I was a little disappointed at their backstory, I dont know what I was expecting though. I guess when they keep a main character(s) so secret for so long, the need to learn more about them builds and builds and when its finally revealed its hard to live up to the excitement in my head. Jacob seemed a little naive and whiny, always off to tell mommy what his brother was up to.
The "light" was a little bit of a let down as well. In the light is life, death, rebirth, yet going into the light is worse than death? what?? Why does every character have to be so damn cryptic?!

Well, a couple questions were answered.

-Who is Adam and Eve?
