We sit down with Smile Empty Soul to talk about their new album 'Consciousness, carnies, Subways and injured legs.

SHAKEFIRE: First how is Sean Danielson's leg healing?
SMILE EMPTY SOUL: Seans leg is healing nicely! De is no longer on crutches and has only a minor limp. Needless to say he will no longer be skateboarding down steep hills.

SF: What did Sean & Jake get tattoos of in the tour bus?
SES: They got the title of our newest record "consciousness"

SF: What do you have coming up this year
SEE: 2010 is shaping up to be quite a busy year for us. Our new single "Alone with Nothing" goes to radio Feb. 19 and we are going to be hitting the road in support of that. We plan on touring a majority of the year and hope to make our way over seas as well this year.

SF: What prompted you to release "Anxiety" and only digitally?
SEE: We got the rights back from atlantic records so we decided we should put it out for the fans. It will be coming out this spring with a bonus dvd.

SF: Your latest album, "Consciousness", had a number of delays, was there any time that you thought it would have the same fate as "Anxiety"?
SEE: No not at all.  We were all very committed to putting together this record and all really believed in it.

SF: Your lineup has been through numerous changes in the last decade. Do you see your current lineup as permanent or do you feel that changes help keep the music fresh?
SEE: This is the final lineup right here.  We all get along very well.  We are all really committed to the band as well plus we really enjoy playing together.

SF: You have had a number of public issues in the past in relation to record labels and digital music.  Do you regret originally signing with a major label?
SEE: No, I dont regret it.  It was a huge learning experience and it got us to where we are now.

Freddy cause he's in your dreams. That's way more terrorizing.

I loved her larry.  Ya blew it!

10. When was the first time you had a beer?
When I was 8.  Me and my buddy Paul stole 2 Bud Lights and drank them in the hills and acted like assholes then went home for dinner.
