'Pacific Rim 2' coming in 2017 alongside animated show

The apocalypse has officially been uncancelled as Legendary Pictures and Universal have officially greenlit a sequel to last year's Pacific Rim. Pacific Rim 2 has been set for April 7., 2017. Guillermo del Toro will return to direct the film in addition to working on the script with sreenwriters Zak Penn and Travis Beacham. The sequel will feature "more kaiju, more Jeagers, kicking each other's butt" says del Toro in the announcement video seen below.

In addition to Pacific Rim 2, del Toro is planning on an animated series that lead up to the sequel and continue the story being told in the comics. Details are scarce but del Toro told Buzzfeed that “the characters I love will return. Raleigh, Mako, Newt, Gottlieb and who knows, maybe even Hannibal Chau – but we are taking them into a fresh territory that will display amazing sights and battles. The first film set the stage and now we’re ready to have a blast.”

I guess it's time to reset the clock.
