Even though they were able to pull off that one act the group was arrested by the CPS (City Protective Services) and then sentenced to die by execution. As one of the officers responsible for capturing the group, Kiera Cameron (played by Rachel Nichols) is a witness for the execution but something goes awry causing the terrorist group and Kiera to travel in time. Now stuck in the year 2012 Kiera must hunt down a group of the worst terrorist in the world that has knowledge of the future and do it while being way out of her time.
TIME TRAVEL:
I was mildly surprised with Continuum, especially since the plot of time traveling cop is far from original. If I were to go by the plot alone of the cop going back in time to stop the bad guy(s), then I wouldn't have liked this show. Going by the way the show is formatted and shot, well that's a different story all together. Continuum looks like a higher budget show, maybe not one of the big league shows that cost millions per episode, but it didn't look like it was made on a shoestring budget either. The first thing that I noticed was the special effects being used to give the future city a look of the future. It's a subtle style being used where the city looks like it could be modern but the clothing and weapons being used are easily picked out to be set in the future. Although, there’s nothing too wild being used where it looks like it would be unbelievable, such as flying cars.
It’s the suit that Kiera wears that is really cool, with all that it can do with it’s built in tech I already want to travel to 2076 just so I can have one, and also it don't hurt that Rachel Nichols looks good wearing it. Though as much as the show looks cool with the gadgets being used and even having decent acting being done by Rachel Nichols, Continuum has a good picture quality for a broadcast television show. There’s a lot of scenes with shadows and dark areas that could have had grain and noise in the picture but I didn’t see any. Once this show hits the Blu Ray market I would think it will look really good.
One thing that I liked a lot with the first episode was that twist at the end as well as the mystery of what's going on. Not that the show is a puzzle that only a genuis would be able to solve but Continuum is giving enough questions about who this person is, why the group is doing what they are, and how will Kiera stop them and get back to the future will be what drives teh show. I'll be wanting to watch more just to see what all that suit that she wears is capable of but I'm most intrigued by the relationship between her and Alec Sadler (played by Erik Knudsen).
