Ron Howard Steps in as Director of Star Wars' Han Solo Film

Earlier this week it was revealed that Phil Lord and Christopher Miller had left the Han Solo Star Wars Anthology film mid-production, and today Disney and Lucasfilm have announced that Ron Howard will be stepping in as director to finish the project. Filming is currently on a hiatus while everything is being sorted out, but it will resume on July 10th according to the press release.

“At Lucasfilm, we believe the highest goal of each film is to delight, carrying forward the spirit of the saga that George Lucas began forty years ago,” said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm. “With that in mind, we’re thrilled to announce that Ron Howard will step in to direct the untitled Han Solo film. We have a wonderful script, an incredible cast and crew, and the absolute commitment to make a great movie. Filming will resume the 10th of July.”

The Academy Award-winning Howard is known best for his films Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind, Rush, and The Da Vinci Code franchise.

The untitled Han Solo film is still slated for a May 25, 2018 release.
