BOTTOM LINE:

While the southern setting is beautiful, the movie is more than suck.

Imagine this entire review is written in a really bad southern accent.  The kind that would be offensive even in a time when people actually had that strong of an accent.  ok, naw let's continue, y'all.

The lead actors (Alden Ehrenreich & Alice Englert) are from Los Angeles and Australia, respectively, and you can certainly tell that neither one is comfortable in their roles.  I also question whether or not they even had any speech coaches or if they were just handed a Gone With the Wind DVD and told to mimic that.  The movie starts off with Ethan (Ehrenreich) narrating so you get the accents right off the bat and the narration, unfortunately, continues, complete with what are supposed to be southern sayings.

Oddly enough, the accents aren't the most offensive things in this movie.  No, that would be the writing, directing and editing in general.  In fact, the only good thing about this movie is the setting.  With New Orleans as the setting for the fictional town of Gatlin, South Carolina, you can just press mute and look at the backgrounds the whole time, and you might not completely waste your time.  Perhaps the book was good, I don't know, it likely had to be better than this if it was such a hit, but the movie is not a glowing endorsement of any kind.

Beautiful Creatures is another in a long line of films that attempt to capitalize on the supernatural teen romance success of Twilight, just to fail miserably.

This movie would probably get an F from me, or at least the D- that Matt gave it in theatres, but the transfers quality bumps it up just a bit.

BONUS FEATURES:

Bonus features are surprisingly plentiful but, if you aren't a fan of the movie or of the book, you likely won't find any entertainment here either.

QUALITY:

Great quality. The picture and sound are both crisp and one of the better transfers I have seen in a while.
