As I sit here thinking out what to say in my review for the self titled album, Coastgaard by Coastgaard, I have images of sand between my toes, flip flops sitting at the corner of the towel, and watching the people play around in the water. The reason I have those sort of images even though it's Winter and everywhere is cold to freezing out, this album Coastgaard is beach style music. It's indie-rock with surf style beats and rhythms. Though if that's not a good enough description of this band then maybe knowing that 3 of the songs are titled, "Beach 1", "Beach 2", and "Beach 3", or that another song is called "Tidal Wave"?
Listening to the music of Coastgaard should be done on a day that you can be lazy because it will make you want to relax and do nothing. That and make you want to be at the beach, at least that's what it had me wanting and the more I played the songs the more I was not wanting this cold weather. Each of the songs are soft with a laid back kind of energy where the songs have a comforting sound to them. The vocals are is what gives the songs the soft side because they are sung in a soft tone. It's nothing that dampens the spirit of the songs, while the vocals are sung softly they are also filled with this easy going energy. Though if you are a little bit tired when listening I would imagine that the easy nature these songs have could lull you into a nap.
Still, even with the music making me want it to be Summer instead of Winter, I did enjoy the songs. There are a few songs that do blend together but I think that's because the songs are so mellow that they had me in this light trance where I didn't realize the songs had changed. I would have liked to heard a few quicker beats being played in the songs, something liven up the flow of this album. If it was warmer out or I was at a beach this music would be a good way to pass away the day because of it's relaxing tone. However, it's Winter, it's cold, and where I'm keeping my place warm and wearing warm clothes, the music just don't have enough energy to keep me pepped up. It's good music, it's well played, but they are mellow enough to make you tired.
