Doomsday Preppers begins its third season on the National Geographic Channel with two families who are preparing for when some catastrophic event happens, either by nature or our own government. They stockpile supplies, have a wide arrange of tools to keep them safe, and have plans in place for when things go wrong.

Preppers are an interesting group of people and the show provides a decent glimpse into these people’s lives. While I personally think they’re a little insane, it does make decent television. One of the biggest problems I have with the show, however, is the fact that these aren’t your typical people. These are people with a whole lot of money as being a prepper can be quite expensive. I imagine most people can’t afford to stockpile years of food or build an underground bunker in their backyard. What I would like to see is something along the lines of what your everyday person can do to prepare for the worst.

What I do like about Doomsday Preppers is that towards the end of the show, they have a separate company come in and evaluate the prepper’s situation and give them advice on what works and what could use improvement. They then determine the probability of the likelihood that whatever situation they’ve prepared for would occur, whether it’s a tidal flood in Alaska or a democide by our government. It’s a fun show that takes itself a little too seriously, but does provide a decent amount of entertainment.
