Dot Hacker releases its second album in two parts, How's Your Process? (Work) dropped on July 1st, and the second half, How's Your Process? (Play), will release in October. And if you haven't heard of them before, perhaps now is when you should.
Coming together in 2008, the band began working on their first album. It had to be delayed when Josh Klinghoffer landed a gig as the guitarist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Because of everyone's busy schedules, their debut EP and their follow on full album didn't drop until 2012, February and May respectively.
The songs of How's Your Process? (Work) have a feel to me that is like the slower end of Garbage, with an almost trippy bent. It's hard to separate how I feel about the six tracks of the album as they tend toward sameness, but it makes for an interesting 30+ minutes of music to listen to. I suspect this will become a permanent part of my playlist for music to work to and it waves and blends into the background helping me shut out the world and get things done. The "(Work)" part of the album title may wind up being very apt.
I wonder what (Play) will sound like. Eagerly awaiting October.
