Fly Like An Eagle: An All Star Tribute to Steve Miller Band

Fly Like An Eagle

(An All Star Tribute To Steve Miller Band)
Release Date:

Tribute bands have been around since, well I don't know but I do know that if you're a popular group then you most likely have a tribute band. Depending on the level of your fame you could possibly have more than one or you could be like this album "Fly Like An Eagle" by having a multitude of performers working on one tribute album for the Steve Miller Band. Which I have to say the Steve Miller Band is quite popular and with songs like "The Joker", "Take The Money and Run", and yes "Fly Like An Eagle", it's easy to see why there are a lot of people wanting to make a tribute album. These are some very popular and well liked songs that are being played on this album so it already has one gold star, the songs already are good.
Though just because the song is already liked, has a following, is well known, and is formatted to be a good song, does not mean the tribute versions will be any good. Normally I tend to stay away from tribute bands and albums unless I'm at a bar and have no other choice. Reason being is that even if the songs are performed well or even good, it's usually never better than the original. It's almost similar to watching a movie based off a book, it can be a great movie but it's not better than the book. This CD has songs that fit right into that category for being good but just not as good. What's kind of funny though is that the CD is called, Fly Like An Eagle, An All-Star Tribute to Steve Miller Band only the "all-star" musicians I've never heard of before. Who are these stars? Don't know but I guess somewhere to somebody they are.
As for the songs, yeah they are good, but as I said they already start off being good just for being a song that I already like because the Steve Miller Band made them good. The songs are played well, not great, they are sung well, but not great, and I did enjoy them but again not as much as the originals. These star musicians put their style on the songs and for the most part it's done well and for a tribute band they have done quite well. If I where at a bar listening to the songs I would enjoy them enough that they would make me want to listen to the Steven Miller Band playing them. And that's what it comes down to, the songs are played well but they only make me want to hear the original songs.
