Blink of an Eye

Children's recording artist Frances England will release her fourth album later this summer entitled Blink of an Eye.  Winner of both the 2007 Oppenheim Platinum Award for Music and the 2008 Gold Parent's Choice Award, England focuses her music on upbeat pop songs suitable for the entire family.  Listeners will be happy to discover that the sentimental songs are just as geared towards the adults as they are towards the youngsters.

Opening track “Blink of an Eye” is an ode to how fast children grow featuring guest vocals from another veteran of the children’s music scene, Elizabeth Mitchell.  England has several other family musicians on the album including singer Molly Ledford from the group Lunch Money, Morgan Taylor of Gustafer Yellowgold fame, and Caspar Babypants.  Fans of alternative rock might be shocked to find out that Babypants is the alter-ego of Chris Ballew, the lead singer for The Presidents of the United States of America.  With all the talent involved, Blink of an Eye becomes a sort of all-star album in the children’s genre.

England shows off her folk skills on “Little Wings” with her fast-paced guitar work and rapid fire lyrics.  Children will be delighted by the sound experimentation and the complex beats in “Move Like Saturday Night.”  The excitement of returning home is captured in the appropriately titled “Home” where the piano takes center stage.  Other tracks teach the youngsters about expressing their feelings (“Tell Me It All”) and staying positive in the face of adversity (“The Sun Will Shine Again”).  Whether you’re looking for an album appropriate for that long road trip or searching for a unique gift for a younger child, Blink of an Eye is an album packed with folksy fun all ages will enjoy.
