Jessica Poland is moving on from her Charlotte Sometimes stage name with her first self-titled release LACES, a darker and more sultry mix of electronic music that gets aways from her pop origins.

The EP features five distinctly different tracks that showcase the vocal variety of Poland. The first track, “Love Me Sober,” feels like a good-bye to her Charlotte Sometimes persona as she moves on to more mature material, as evident in “Erotic.” The album feels like a better fit for Poland’s deeper, more powerful voice, which is accompanied by smooth electro-pop dance music.

LACES feels like a proper evolution for Jessica Poland. It’s a bit on the short side and cuts off right as you’re getting used to her new style, but I think it’s a good sign of things to come.
