Slugterra: Return of the Elementals

Slugterra is Disney XD’s own version of Pokemon that features living slugs that act as ammunition for blasters. By collecting and training slugs through dueling battles, people can transform them into powerful beasts. The Shane Gang is a group of young adventurers who have faced many foes in the three seasons the show has been on Disney XD, but they’re about to come up against their biggest challenged yet on the big screen.

Slugterra: Return of the Elementals is the franchise’s debut in theaters and features Eli Shane and the rest of his team in a race to protect the five ancient Elemental Slugs from being used to destroy the world as they know it. Once again, the Shane Gang is up against the evil Dr. Thaddius Blakk who has teamed up with the slug Goon to use the power of the Elemental Slugs to take over the world.

The film continues from where the previous movie, Ghoul From Beyond, left off as the formerly possessed Junjie is now a member of the Shane Gang and vows to help defeat Goon.  Like many film adaptations of popular animated television shows, Return of the Elementals feels like an extended episode with a little extra punch.

There’s nothing particularly noteworthy about the film. It’s decent enough in that it will keep kids interested, but there’s no particular reason to see it on the silver screen when it will also be coming out on video a few weeks later.  If you’re a fan of the series, though, Slugterra: Return of the Elementals delivers more of the same action you’ve come to enjoy.
