Who Lives in a Pineapple Under The Sea?

In early development, SpongeBob was originally named SpongeBoy.

Are you ready kids? Aye, aye, Captain! Seven words parents and most likely anyone with cable television have heard countless times since SpongeBob SquarePants made it's debut on Nickelodeon way back in 1999. Now almost 200 epidoes into its run and with another movie on tap for 2015, Paramount is starting to release compilation collections featuring other citizens of Bikini Bottom besides SpongeBob. First up is Patrick Starr - perhaps the most loveable animated sidekick of a generation in SpongeBob & Friends: Patrick SquarePants.

Voiced by Bill Fagerbakke (Coach, How I Met Your Mother), Patrick has been a staple of the series since the beginning and, for some fans, is even more beloved than SpongeBob himself. Those same fans will now be able to enjoy over three hours worth of entertainment with this compilation of 14 episodes spanning seasons two through eight. Memorable episodes include "New Student Starfish" where Patrick goes to school for the first time with SpongeBob, "Karate Star" where Patrick learns karate and runs amok, and "The Googly Artiste" where Patrick’s artwork with googly eyes somehow becomes incredibly popular.

Like most Nickelodeon releases, there are no special features included on the DVD. However, the three hours of content with a $10 price tag more than makes up for the lack of bonuses. The episodes selected are extremely diverse and at no time did I feel like I was becoming exhausted by Patrick's shenanigans. As a longtime fan of the program, I was a bit disappointed that my personal favorite episode - Season 2's "Sailor Mouth" - was not included. Alas, beggars can't be choosers. Any SpongeBob fan who takes a liking to Patrick needs to add SpongeBob & Friends: Patrick SquarePants to their collection. The awesome slipcover alone makes it a must-own. Recommended.
