I recall when This Is The End hit theaters, and I saw the massive cast of usual suspects, I shrugged and moved on. I figured the film would be a plethora of cuss words, pot references, misogynistic ideologies tossed to and fro, and probably a ton of body and toilet humor to boot. Boy was I right. Still, This Is The End winds up being the best stoner comedy I’ve seen in years.

What makes the film is the fact that all of the actors play themselves. Not only do they play themselves, they poke fun at themselves and one another as well. For example; when Seth Rogen is seen meeting Jay Baruchel at the airport a reporter asks him why he always plays the same character in every film. I thought that was pretty funny. Kind of like the actors saying, “Yeah, we know, we know, but were still making films and making money.”

What surprised me was the theme of the film and the budget in which this theme comes to life. I don’t know that this film would have been as interesting if the special effects had been taken out. Combine the comedy, the immersing effects, and your own personal interaction with the theme of the film and you have a winning combination.

This Is The End is a crude unapologetic film that will more then likely offend some people, but considering the cast you know right upfront what you’re getting into. It’s just a raunchy good time with a little food for thought. I highly recommend.
