Tim Kasher is best known for being a member of the bands Cursive and The Good Life. However, he has ventured off and started a solo career, which has received critical praise. He has already released 1 solo album a couple years ago and he just released his sophomore solo album this month. He started working on “Adult Film” in 2011 and he has been working on the album until he finally decided to release it publicly on October 8th.
Tim has a good voice, but his lyrics were a bit confusing and difficult to relate to. He is talented instrumentally, but I felt the direction of the album lacked focus and was all over the place. Some songs Tim sounded like a softer and less edgy Green Day, but lacked the general uniqueness and mass appeal Green Day brings to each of their songs. I tried hard to understand where Tim was coming from on each song on the cd, but I could not figure out the whole purpose or meaning for the album as a whole.
From what I have heard from others, this album is different from Tim’s 1st solo album, “The Game of Monogamy.” I’m not sure if that is a good thing or bad thing because I was not sure what was going where I listened to and reviewed this album. I think I’ll check Tim Kasher’s previous work and hope they provide more focus and direction than “Adult Film.” You can check out this album, if you want, but it is a pass for me. For those reasons, I am giving “Adult Film” a “D+.”
