The Season 4 companion takes a closer look at 10 of the 22 episodes from Season 4, explores numerous characters, introduces you to some of the cast and much more. 

The set up is pretty simple but works for a book like this. They give you the title of the episode, who wrote it, guest starred in it, directed it and then a short summary of what took place. After all the basic information is out of the way they take a deeper look into the story, what drove the characters, the inspirations, and what they were trying to capture with interviews with writers, directors, and the actors. Peppered in to give you even more information is random trivia, facts, quotes from the show, the music featured in some of the episodes, and things that happened off camera. There are plenty of black & white photos from the episodes; but if you are looking for something more near the back there are also full color photos of Dean, Sam, Castiel, and others.

So is this book necessary for fans to buy? No; but it is a fun and interesting read. What is great about it is you can skim it, jump around & read only one episode, or sit down and read the whole thing through at one time (and probably pretty quickly too).  There are stories about off camera antics and things that happened while filming. They even give you more lore on angels. For the most part it is everything a fan could want; though there is one tiny thing I could see them asking for to make this book perfect. And that would be covering all 22 episodes. (That and I noticed that 2 of the Did You Know facts are the exact same). Other than those little things great gift for Supernatural fans or if you are a fan a great gift to yourself.
