Artist: Brookhaven Album: When The Chorus Walks Genre: Rock Label: Expel Records Tracks: 7 Type: Digital Release Date: January 1, 2010 Discs: 1 Notes: http://www.myspace.com/brkhvn Rating: ( )Grade: B- Bands like Mono, This Will Destroy You, and Explosions In The Sky have made this world a difficult place for instrumental/ambient rock bands. They (and others of their ilk) have cut such a wide swath within the music world that it’s hard for newer (or less well-known) instrumental bands to carve out a name for themselves. Case in point: Brookhaven. These guys have a nice sound, good guitar tones and an overall pleasant sonic feel, but there’s not much here to set them off from, well, the bands I just listed. With only seven tracks here, you might think this is merely an EP, but each song is of the longer sort, so the total album length is over 45 minutes long. Unfortunately, the pieces start to blur together after about 10 minutes. All in all, this isn’t a bad release by any means. It’s a solid record and definitely worth your time if you’re a fan of ambient rock music. But it just doesn’t have enough unique qualities to separate it from the rest of the pack. |
