I’ve said it once before, the Indie market is simply too jam packed, and in this day and age of free flowing information right at your fingertips the overexposure of Indie acts on the web is slowly strangling the genre. Fortunately you come across little gems like Certain People You Know, a straight forward Indie rock outfit that still has that raw edge to their sound that makes you remember the day when bands played out of pure enjoyment without putting on all the flash in hopes of being seen, even in comparison as a foot in the door technique.

The band consists of Braid/Hey Mercedes band mates Bob Nanna and Damon Atkinson along with Jeff Dean, Lauren LoPiccolo, and Matt Schuessler. The sound of CPIK puts vocals up front with the rest of the band sounding a bit behind, if that makes sense. There is a male/female dynamic behind the vocals with occasional spurts of harmony between the male voices in the band. The band sounds experimental at times with a jam band vibe. The first time I heard them I thought of Voxtrot or Sonic Youth during their Rather Ripped era. It’s just easy going rock that you can choose to ignore or engross yourself in, but in the end it always sounds fantastic no matter how many repeat listens you choose to enjoy.
