Artist: Elisium Album: Becoming Members: Nate Compton, Kirb Compton, Nathan Thomas Label: Elisium Tracks: 6 Type: EP Release Date: May 22, 2012 Discs: 1 Rating: ( )Grade: A- In a sense Elisium’s latest album Becoming is a perfect example of progressive metal music taking one part complex nu-metal, throwing in a flare for Maynard Keenan, and peppering throughout the album a little bit of electronic noise. Toss out a horrid Men With Out Hats cover and it would be one of those rare albums that just bursts through the gates and becomes legend. The album is actually pretty short clocking in at near twenty two minutes. Minus the intro, which I thought was pretty awesome, but let’s face it who loops an intro? Omit the terrible Safety Dance Cover (it just sounds out of synch, off key, and just off) and the remaining album is a mere 17+ minutes. Still, those 17+ minutes are all kinds of awesome. The band admits that despite there only being three members it sounds like there are more. Usually I’m not into boasting from bands, it usually ends up biting them in the ass, but they aren’t lying. Their sound is huge. Big guitar sound, furious complex drums, and passionate vocals that show great range. Elisium has it going on as far as their sound is concerned. Stay away from cover songs and just give us more original tunes, a longer album, and I predict these boys will become a household name in no time. As always final judgment is yours. Enjoy. |
