Artist: Fourth Quarter Comeback Album: The Only Way We Know Members: Andy Garcia, Benjamin Cobb, Casey Johnson, Matt DuRousseau Label: Unsigned Tracks: 6 Type: EP Release Date: January 15, 2013 Discs: 1 Rating: ( )Grade: B- With the release of their second EP, Virginia pop rockers 4th Quarter Comeback display a wide range of ability in only six tracks. After listening to The Only Way We Know a few times, it's hard to believe that a band with such a talented lead singer and a radio-friendly sound would continue to remain unsigned in the near future. "Back to Sleep" is the absolute standout on the EP and would fit in perfectly on any Top 40 station in the country. The song is such a catchy earworm of a tune that you'll be singing "count backwards from ten" right along with lead singer Andy Garcia. The band shows a more edgy side with "New Girlfriend" where Garcia rants about leaving complaining girlfriends. That description might sound annoying to readers, but 4th Quarter Comeback is talented enough to get away with it. The acoustic "Awake" intelligently utilizes vocal layering near the end of the song making it more enjoyable with each and every listen. The band stumbles with the songs "Hold Your Breath" and "Drama Queen." Both cater to the teenage girl audience and really do 4th Quarter Comeback a disservice by pigeonholing them to that specific demographic. Expecting for "All In" to fit in the same category, my jaw dropped when I heard Garcia drop the f-bomb. My jaw didn't drop because I was offended, but because for that one split second I could hear how awesome this band could be if they dropped their inhibitions and gained a little bit of an attitude. The Only Way We Know is a decent listen, but nothing near their full potential. |
