Artist: Iron Maiden Album: The Final Frontier Members: Bruce Dickinson, Dave Murray, Adrian Smith, Janick Gers, Steve Harris Genre: Metal Label: Sony Legacy Tracks: 10 Release Date: August 17, 2010 Discs: 1 Rating: ( )Grade: C- Iron Maiden, the English heavy metal band that’s been around since the 1970’s, has put out a new album called ‘The Final Frontier’. One thing that Iron Maiden has always had going for them that makes them recognizable is the art work they have. Gracing yet another album cover is the crazy, messed up, creature that has this look like it would be better suited for a role playing game with dragons and monsters. Don’t matter, I’m not here to talk art but the music of this band that has stood the test of time. Though this don’t prove anything, it should, just not in this case, at least to my ears. Here on The Final Frontier Iron Maiden has performed 10 songs, that are actually somewhat long, that are just not too fun to listen to. The songs all sound chaotic though it’s not the style that is good for heavy metal. What I mean is a song will be good when the vocals are sung even with no off pitch, the instruments will have a good beat to them, and when the two are synchronized. What Iron Maiden has is 2 of the three. The vocals are good, they’re even, they are strong, they are done by someone that can sing. The instrumental is strong as well with beats that make the songs full of energy, they have the guitar riffs, and the sound of a heavy metal. Where the problem comes into is the two don’t mesh well with each other. When I was listening to the songs I kept getting this feeling that the instrumental track was laid down without there even being any vocals. Then in another room the vocals were being sung without hearing the instruments. Once both where done they were put together and it was said there, now we have a song. If the songs had a more unified sound to them this CD would have been more fun to listen to, as it is I just got antsy from listening to it and by the end I was glad to have a little silence. |
