Artist: Less Than Jake Album: Greetings and Salutations from Less Than Jake Members: Chris Demakes, Roger Manganelli, Vinnie Fiorello, Buddy Schaub, JR Wasilewski Genre: Punk, Reggae/Ska, Rock Label: Fat Wreck Chords Tracks: 12 Type: LP Release Date: January 8, 2013 Discs: 1 Rating: ( )Grade: B While I've always been a huge fan of Five Iron Frenzy, my appreciation and enjoyment of their music didn't necessarily translate into a love of other ska bands. That's not because I've harbored an active dislike for other ska groups, but rather that I got my fill of the genre thanks to FIF. That said, if things had been different when I was younger, it could just as easily have been Less Than Jake instead of the Frenzy. These guys are veterans, having been around since 1992. Legions of fans and scores of releases later, Greetings and Salutations is their latest record. It's actually a combination of two previous EPs, Greetings from Less Than Jake and Seasons Greatings from Less Than Jake. It features all 10 tracks from those two EPs, plus two extra songs, "Flag Holders Union" and "View From The Middle." All told, it's a pretty enjoyable album. It flows well, despite being built from the two separate EPs. Musically, it's your typical ska sound, but done by some of the finest in the business. It's fun, punchy and a blast to listen to. If you've never listened to LTJ before, this wouldn't be a bad place to start. If you're a fan, you've probably already gotten both of the EPs, so that's possibly the only downfall to this release. Check it out if you want some fun music with a lot of energy and passion. |
