Artist: Of Mice and Men Album: The Flood Members: Austin Carlile, Valentino Arteaga, Shayley Bourget, Phil Manansala, Alan Ashby Label: Rise Records Tracks: 11 Type: Digital Release Date: June 10, 2011 Rating: ( )Grade: B- Interesting Tidbits Of Mice and Men has made rock covers for the popular songs "Poker Face" by Lady Gaga and "Blame It" by Jamie Foxx. Of Mice and Men’s “The Flood” is a varied and well paced album that will have your body moving and your head banging. Their sound is very reminiscent of My Chemical Romance, but with a lot more edge and better instrumentals. They were formed in 2009 and are back on the music scene with their sophomore album. The yelling on this album was both a gift and a curse. The yelling wasn’t all bad because it was fairly easy to decipher what they were saying, but there was just a bit too much of it. Despite the amount of yelling on the whole album, the singing mixed very well with it and gave it a very nice balance. This was most apparent on “Ben Threw,” “Still Ydg’n,” and, my favorite song on the whole album, “Letting you Go.” Their vocal talents were most properly presented on these songs. The instrumentals on the whole album were insanely good. They make good music and work magic with their instruments. The guitars were best represented on “Ohioisonfire” and “Ben Threw.” I loved the drum solo and guitar riffs on “Product of a Murderer.” The totally rocked it on that song and it was unlike any other song I have heard before. Overall, this was a good album that I would recommend to all the punk and rock genre fans out there. However, I would have liked to have seen a bit less yelling and more singing. Due to their wicked instrumentals and great complementing of yelling and singing, I am giving this album a “B-.” |
