So I know what you’re thinking. What the hell is a Gampo? According to an interview over at MNDaily.com Prof talks about a friendship he had with a kid from Tibet named Gampo. Apparently he was the crazy kid out of their group so after he left they turned his name into slang meaning: Ridiculous and the outrageous, both of which Prof proves he is on his latest release “King Gampo”.

What I loved about the album is that it’s not your typical Hip Hop album. There’s none of that radio bullshit about buying gold plated Humvees or having houses from here to France. Prof is all about being on either side of extremely crude and hilarious or solemnly serious. You’ve got tracks on here where his flow includes words like pooping and boobies and then you’ve got tracks that go into a deep stir about being a single Father and fighting for custody. You just never know what you’re going to get out of a track until you’ve listened to it a couple of times, and you will want to listen to the album a few dozen times. It’s that good.

Beats are frantic here mixing 8 bit samples with synthetic orchestrations and organic instruments subtly bleeding in over Prof’s amazingly fast paced flow that goes from plain rapping to soul singing to some other weird hard to explain style that works. It’s the off beat way in which the album comes at you that makes it so enveloping. Weather you just want to throw something on to sit back and have a beer to, ignore, or party with, King Gampo seems to have it all in one place.
