Uh, Oh, R. Kelly is officially should officially be considered a grown, mature adult; I think. R. Kelly’s album “Write Me Back” has an old-fashioned, teeny-bopper, 50’s feel at times but at the same time, it’s 2012 relevant. Who knew you could do that? Not a bad observation at all. I love it. It’s sophisticated and a great relief from the top 40 R&B/Hip-Hop Charts today. You know, when every song portrays a woman as a b*tch and all the guys want to do is have sex with no commitment. Don’t judge me; I’m still a man.
I think I even heard a little Ron Isley on the track “Green Light.” You have definitely graduated in any music genre when you have a music heavyweight sing YOUR backup vocals. Speaking of musical legends, I hear quite a bit of Smokey Robinson in R. Kelly’s voice which is almost indiscernible at times. The album is definitely solid. Unfortunately, until my review, I did not hear a single from R. Kelly from this album. Not saying that he didn’t have one. But everyone in media/entertainment knows that marketing will make or break a project. Does anyone else know that R. Kelly has come out with a new album? Now, I listen to Top 40 Adult Contemporary and Hip-Hop/R&B radio stations the most. I haven’t heard a peep. Things that make you go hmmm…
