Artist: Roscoe Dash Album: J.U.I.C.E. Members: Roscoe Dash Genre: R&B, Rap/Hip Hop Label: Interscope Tracks: 7 Type: EP Release Date: December 20, 2011 Rating: ( )Grade: B- Interesting Tidbits Roscoe Dash is the oldest of his siblings and he has a daughter. Roscoe Dash represents Atlanta, Georgia and he is best known for his mixtapes and single (“All the way Turnt Up”) that featured Soulja Boy. He is not only a rapper, but he is also a singer with a lot of talent. He was also featured on Big Sean’s hit single “Marvin Gaye & Chardonnay.” “J.U.I.C.E.” is his first official EP and it showcases his skills and versatility. “J.U.I.C.E.” was a very well balanced EP that had its ups and downs. The beats were very well done and varied from smooth R&B to hard-hitting club bangers. My favorite song was “Good Good Night” because it had an up-tempo bouncing beat that is perfect for the radio and would get the whole club moving. Also, Roscoe Dash’s lyrics and flows on this song were perfect and a lot better compared to his other songs. He is really in his element on this song and I wish he stuck with this formula on the rest of the EP. On half of the songs on the EP, Roscoe also included a couple of guest stars. He worked well with Wale (“Into the Morning”), but he was outshined by K’LA on “I do.” She carried the song and Roscoe’s lyrics were fairly weak on this song with its mediocre hook. However, he got it right with Big Sean on “Sidity.” They have worked together before and are a dynamic duo to look out for in future collaborations. They have good chemistry and complement each other very well. He also shows off his singing skills on this song and he sounded really good. I liked most of the songs on “J.U.I.C.E. with the exception of “Awesome” and “The Impossible” because they showed how much Roscoe Dash needs to work on his lyrics. He did a great job on the other songs, but these two songs could have been left out. There are only 7 songs on this EP and my interest in Roscoe Dash has been peaked enough to want to hear more from him. I just hope he makes more songs that are as high quality as “Good Good Night” and “Sidity.” J.U.I.C.E. does deserve a listen because it is a well rounded EP. For those reasons, I am giving this EP a “B-.” |
