I just finished listening to the new album Bad Decisions put out by the group Siva Addiction for the third time tonight. In the last two days I’ve listened to this album around 7 times. That’s not too out of the normal range for me when I listen to an album to review. Typically I try to get in at least 4 times of listening before I write my review, not counting listening as I write the reviews. It took a few more times of listening to Siva Addiction for me to figure out what I was going to say about Bad Decisions.
When I was first finished with the album I wasn’t quite sure that I had liked it or not. It seemed liked I did but I wasn’t sure. What was throwing me off was the vocals being sung by Bridgette Oliver. She has a very strong voice, it’s clear, and she makes the lyrics easy to understand but she seems to be fighting the urge to fully let go. I could hear the energy in her lyrics and in her voice but it’s almost like she didn’t want to get too loud or fast with her vocals. Could be she wouldn’t have sounded as good as she does if she did but when listening to the vocals I kept having this feeling of the song about to kick into a higher gear but it never does.
Not that it hurts the flow of the songs that much because Bridgette Oliver still has a lot of energy in her vocals. There’s even more energy being put into the instruments. These beats being played have no worries about kicking it up a notch because they do. It’s also a little of this reason that I had to give Bad Decisions a few more spins because it sounds like the instruments are trying to play heavy metal while the vocals are singing rock and roll. The two work together giving the songs a decent sound but I would have a liked the vocals to have had a little more energy put into them. This band has a good feel for a fun rock and roll song and if they give their songs a sharper edge they will make some intense music to listen to.
