Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark is the soundtrack from the newly released Broadway musical. It features the stage cast, Bono and The Edge (both of U2 and penned the lyrics).

While listening to the disc, there is an incongruity aparent in Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark. The songs seem to be grouped randomly, hurting the flow of the soundtrack. A little research found that this problem is caused mostly because the songs are in a different order than in the playbill. Had this happened in the 80s, that would have turned away many people automatically, now we can rearrange playlists fairly easily. When played in the order from the production, the songs become less of a mess and pick up a flow.

Some of the songs are easily forgettable and unmoving, sounding like something played between pop-hits on the radio. Many people will find themselves unable to hum, let alone sing with many of the songs.

Bad points aside, there are redeeming qualities to this offering. The disc offers songs that will appeal to music theater and pop music fans alike. The cast sings very well in the genres that the songs use. Of exceptional note are the performances by Reeve Carney, Patrick Page and Jennifer Damiano. Many of the songs are not automatically identifiable as from Broadway and can be appreciated by a wider audience.

There will be many people that will want Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, a portion being: comic fans, Broadway fans and U2 fans. Others could easily become inamoured with the soundtrack. The order issue is still weird and if they come out with a soundtrack featuring all the songs in the proper order, it would be a great improvement. That aside, much of the soundtrack is appealing and well done.
