“Stand Up Guys” is a movie starring Al Pacino and Christopher Walken. The movie is set to be released in theaters on February 1, 2013. The movie is about a group of aging con men that want to reunite, but one of them has to assassinate one of their own friends in the group. The soundtrack has not even been released yet, but Shakefire had the chance to listen to and review it. There are 15 tracks featuring various artists and the most recognized contributing artist was Jon Bon Jovi with 2 songs on the CD.

This was a very well rounded soundtrack which offered a lot of good surprises. They chose to have a lot of variety on the CD from soul to blues to folk and gave each song a gangster and nostalgic vibe to accommodate the time period and feel of the movie. Also, Jon Bon Jovi’s songs were not what would expect to hear from Bon Jovi, the band, but they were surprisingly good and unique. My favorite songs were “When something is wrong with my Baby” and “Love from Above” because they were so soulful and emotional and had an authentic Motown vibe. The other songs did not stand out as much as these songs, but were equally as good and fun to listen to.

The only minor issue I found was that I was not too sure how they all tied together since I have not seen the movie yet. Good variety on a soundtrack is good to keep things interesting, but there has to be a connection to the movie in order for it to be a great soundtrack. Otherwise, I enjoyed this soundtrack and I would recommend it if you want to listen to a good variety of songs. Personally, I liked the soulful and R&B songs the most. I am now curious about the movie and want to check it out when it’s in theaters. In hopes that that movie is as good as the soundtrack, I am giving “Stand Up Guys (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)” a “B.”
