CAROL CHANNING LARGER THAN LIFE:
At 90 years old Carol Channing continues to thrill with her big smile, the life that she brings to the stage, and just being a exciting character. In her long career Carol Channing has been an actress, a comedian, and a singer. She’s won multiple awards, she’s loved onstage and off, and even today when she walks the streets she is recognized. As she approaches her 90th birthday, Carol takes along a camera crew to share what it’s like to be in her life and what her life has been life over the years. From talking about sitting on some steps when she was a kid to her first experience in a play as well as what it’s like to being her age and still singing.

WHAT IT’S LIKE BEING CAROL:
Witty, charming, off the wall, unpredictable, and very outgoing are just a few ways to describe what Carol Channing is like. I’ve known the name, I’ve seen a few things with her in it, but I really didn’t know anything about this actress other than she’s a big name in Broadway. Once I watched this documentary I still didn’t know much about the woman but it was a interesting thing to watch. Her attitude is just amazing by how upbeat she always seems to be, how everything is a huge important moment in time, and how it’s all about her.

This documentary goes all over the place, it don’t seem like there’s any format to the progression of the story, but it don’t matter because it’s still interesting. It’s easy to see how she became such a presence on stage because she just radiates a story that needs to be told, even if it’s just about her not getting a job she makes it into something I wanted to listen to. The camera just wants to follow her and she knows how to make that camera follow her, how I don’t know but by doing so I was sitting there wondering what this woman was going to say.

If you are wanting to watch this to find out what Carol Channing has done in her life and you expect the amount of information like typical documentaries than you might be disappointed. One thing this documentary don’t really do is give too in depth information about her career and life. This would best be called a memoir of Carol Channing given by Carol Channing with some notes from other people like Barbara Walters, Rich Little, Betty Garrett and more. If you are wanting to be entertained by Carol Channing, which is why I would think you would be watching this because you already like the actress, then this will be a very fun documentary to watch. Especially with the bonus features that deal with “Hello, Dolly!” that takes this 89 minute long documentary that was already this odd little journey in Carol Channings life and makes it into a strange, fun, and funny documentary.
