Some people have problems with drugs, some have an addiction to alcohol, and there are some people that can’t stop themselves from shopping. For George (played by Carlos Larkin) he can’t get enough of eating the flesh of people, and the meat, and the brains but that’s because George is a zombie. When his friends realize that George has a problem they decide that the only way to stop him from eating people is to have an intervention for him. Francine (played by Shannon Hodson), George’s sister gets the ex-girlfriend Sarah (played by Michelle Tomlinson), the best friend Ben (played by Peter Stickles), and Barbra, a professional interventionist Lynn Lowry) all get together to get George the help that he needs before he gets out of control. When the intervention don’t work out as planned the group decides to take a break that turns into a survival situation as guests arrive but none leave.
DOES A ZOMBIE INTERVENTION WORK: George A Zombie Intervention is a good idea about having a intervention for a zombie to get him to get help for his addiction of eating people. It’s different, which is what got me wanting to watch it, it’s also about zombies, which makes me want to watch it even more but sometimes there are movies that have a good idea with a topic that I usually always like that ends up being not that great. In the case of George a Zombie Intervention, it’s just not that good of a movie. There’s moments in the movie that illicit a smile and even fewer times that got a chuckle out of me, but that’s as far as it goes.
From the start of the movie it was boring. Nothing was happening in the first half hour. I wasn’t looking for some sort of action to happen during this time, though it would have livened the movie up if it had happened, what was going on was nothing. During the first half hour it’s a introduction of the group of people that want to help George by sitting around talking to each other. This whole scene is boring, it’s slow, and should have only lasted for about 5 minutes and then went on to the group facing George with the idea of an intervention. When that does happen it’s once again this drawn out process of them talking to him and George not wanting to be there listening to them. I know this was moments that was trying to be funny but none are, it’s just boring, way too long, and takes too much time to get to any point and action.
By the time the other characters start showing up and getting killed, then becoming zombies I was already past the point of caring too much for this movie. All but one character in this movie had no connection with me at all and the one that I did like, the one that was actually funny and made the movie interesting, he was given very little screen time. The other cast in this movie tried to act serious and scared but it’s just that, they tried to act. It was as if they have been told about a surprise party being thrown for them so they had to act surprised when walking through the door but when they do walk through they go, oh you got me, everyone knows they’re not surprised and that’s how this acting was done. They wanted to be serious but all they did was look corny and did a lot of jerky hand and head movements.
This movie also proves that good cinematography can make a movie better even when the movie is bad by doing the opposite. By this I mean, having no imagination in the cinematography at all where all the shots are just bland and unmoving, making this movie look boring on top of moving along slowly and taking too long. All these camera shots where just straight on the characters, some wide angles, close ups, medium shots, and all the typical ranges but nothing that gave a interesting perspective on the scene. Along with some boring locations, which are the living room of 2 homes, a bedroom, kitchen, part of a bathroom, and the basement, there was nothing else going on in this movie to give it any good aesthetics. I was bored with just looking at the locations of this movie and with how it took so long to get to anything happening, George A Zombie Intervention ended up falling flat. If this movie was cut down to be around 30 to 45 minutes it would have been much better than it was but with it being a little over an hour and a half it just becomes a long drawn out movie that took a topic that I typically like and made it boring.
