Title: Harpoon: Whale Watching Massacre Genre: Horror Starring: Gunnar Hansen Director: Julius Kemp Studio: Image Entertainment Runtime: 84 minutes Release Date: December 7, 2010 Format: BLU-RAY Discs: 1 Rating: ( )Grade: F Special Features Behind the scenes with Gunnar Hansen Whale watching is supposed to be a fun adventure that will show the wonders of life to the ones seeing it. At least, that’s what it’s supposed to be like but after the captain of the ship that gives the tour dies the tourists have their lives changed in ways they didn’t expect. Before the untimely demise of the captain, he was able to make a call out to an insane group of people that come to the touring ship to take the tourists hostage. What their plans are for the tourists on a barge will lead anyone on it to go crazy with fear. Harpoon: Whale Watching Massacre is not a movie that I enjoyed at all. The best way I can describe this movie is it’s a gore fest of death. If there’s a chance or opportunity for blood to be shown in this it’s taken advantage of. The only thing that I liked about this movie was that it actually ended and I was able to turn it off. It has a good plot idea of having the whale watchers get kidnapped by some crazies and transported to another ship where they have no idea where they’re at, but when it was just showing blood and gore instead of being psychological it lost any interest I had. There’s the typical characters in this film, an rude one that you want to die, a dummy that you can instantly see dying, the girl that will make it, the girl that almost makes it, and the rest are just fodder, as well as the crazy killer villains that you want to have come to a quick end. There’s nothing new to this film, just lots of death and blood being committed by some crazy people. The acting is poor, a lot of it is in subtitles, which having to watch all this gore and having to read at the same time is just not fun at all. While watching this I kept thinking to myself, why? Why did that guy do that, why is she standing there, why didn’t they all ban together to stop those people from the very start, why, why, why? Getting answers to this was not a big deal for me though because it is such a horrible film I just wanted it to be over with. Having it on Blu Ray didn’t impress me any either though it is clear it is not any different looking than what I would see on a HD channel on tv. The sound is good, I was able to hear all the screaming loud and clearly, but nothing else was good about this movie. I've never liked a movie that has blood to have it and this is all that Harpoon Whale Watching Masacre seemed to be. |
