Title: Kate & Leopold Genre: Comedy, Drama, Romantic Starring: Meg Ryan, Hugh Jackman, Liev Schreiber, Breckin Meyer, Natasha Lyonne Director: James Mangold Studio: Miramax Runtime: 118 min Release Date: June 11, 2002 Format: BLU-RAY Discs: 1 MPAA Rating: Grade: B Director's Cut Meg Ryan's character actually ends up becoming an ancestor of her current ex-bofyriend portrayed by Liev Schreiber For a movie nearly eleven years old, Kate & Leopold holds up very well. The Blu-Ray picture is crisp and bright. The jewel tones of the lush scenes of 1876 still look very rich despite being over a decade old. The care with which the film was made in terms of set decor, scene setting, and costume are evident. You can even see the smoke from a lit candle in one scene! Considering the time travel element being central to the plot it's a wonder the movie doesn't date itself much. There aren't many pop culture references to 2001, except for two: Ryan's character's Palm Pilot and an imagined Mac Convention. Special Features:
The only negatives to this Blu-Ray version is that the director's cut is not available and the menu font is very, very tiny. You'll need to sit close to see what you are selecting. |
