Kill Em’ All begins a bit like the original Mortal Kombat film. We find a handful of fighters, each kicking ass and taking names to introduce us to their fighting style and toughness. Instead of pleasant invites the assassins are drugged and wake up in room together, unaware of where they are or how they got there. Oh my.

It’s at this point the film takes some notes from Saw, or any of the other one hundred and one films where captives wake up in a room together and are forced to kill one another until there is only one left. Fighting ensues before a few of them decide it’s better they get out together then take their chances fighting one another to the death.

It’s a pretty straight forward premise and not one that was very well executed. The only real original theme here is the martial arts one, but even that isn’t as great as we could have hoped, mostly because the choreography runs from simple atrocious to mildly amusing. Instead of smooth transitional fighting it’s the usual low budget stand still while I kick you and your buddies can wait while I do kill you.

There was a lot to dislike about Kill Em’ All. The acting was terrible, the fighting was meh. In one scene one of the captives comes up behind a bunch of orange clad, gun toting killers and opens fire on them. Half of the guys start falling down before they even get shot. The bad guys reminded me of those terrible American villains from the old Jackie Chan films. Half gangster, half tough guy, all asinine. If you’re not drugged, put into a room with several others, and forced to watch this film. Your probably better off.

PICTURE QUALITY:
I was more then a little confused by Kill Em’ All’s presentation on Blu-Ray. The film starts off looking pretty darn sharp in a wide out shot of Bangkok. I mean, a wide out shot. Color was marvelous, detail was sharp, and everything just clicked. Our heroes wake up in the mysterious killing chamber and all quality goes to hell. Grain, softness, color being sapped out of the pictured. I guess it’s mostly due to the poor lighting, but then again if you know the conditions you’re going to be shooting aren’t going to be great, you plan for that. By the end when the film moves into a more lighted area everything starts to look better, but not in a consistent way.
