Title: Ocean's 11 (1960) Edition: 50th Anniversary Edition Genre: Classics, Drama, Suspense Starring: Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Angie Dickinson, Peter Lawford Director: Lewis Milestone Studio: Warner Home Video Runtime: 127 minutes Release Date: November 9, 2010 Format: BLU-RAY Discs: 1 Notes: 50th Anniversary Rating: ( )Grade: B- Special Features Commentary with Frank Sinatra Jr and Angie Dickinson, Vegas Then and Now Map, Casino Vignettes, and more When Danny Ocean (played by Frank Sinatra) decides to pull off a robbery there’s only one way he knows how to do this, by hiring 10 of his old friends from the 82nd Airborne division he served with in World War II. Though getting all 10 of these guys back together to do the biggest heist in the history of Las Vegas proves to be harder for Danny Ocean than he first thought it would be. With the help of his best friend Jimmy Foster (played by Peter Lawford), they are able to get the rest of the crew together so they can go to Vegas and rob 5 different casinos at the same time on the same night in Ocean’s 11. This is the original Ocean’s 11, the one that the remake is loosely based off of and the one that I’ve been told is the best of them. I got to say that I wasn’t that impressed. Maybe it was because of how dated the movie is or it’s possible that I didn’t like how there was no tension or real drama in it. Actually, these two reasons are part of why I didn’t care for this original version of the movie. Where is the drama that I’m supposed to be feeling with these guys going to do this heist? I don’t know but with all the singing that’s done in this movie I think the drama got lost somewhere in Sammy Davis Jr.’s voice. It’s not a bad movie though because of the cast that’s in it. I mean come on, Sammy Davis Jr., Frank Sinatra, and Dean Martin are 3 of the coolest guys, even when acting these guys ooze cool. Though at times their acting skills were not the best. It seemed as if they had been waiting to say their lines, though they still did it with skill where it don’t sound like some recording. Ocean’s 11 has a great plot line though and watching how the movie unfolds with such a large cast and getting it all to work is what makes this movie worth watching. I got to say that I was impressed with the quality of the movie. Before putting the Blu-Ray disc I wasn’t thinking that it was going to look that good, after all this is the 50th anniversary of the movie. Couldn’t have been more wrong though. This Blu-Ray of Ocean’s 11 looks great, not anything like the movies made today on Blu-Ray so don’t expect that, but for a movie that’s 50 years old, it looks better than some of the shows that was made only 10 years ago.
