Even though this story is a documentary styled film, you get a thriller, suspenseful feel. The entire story is told in a detective type of way. Where you have a few clues that you try to make into relevant ones or you try to make the clues, bigger ones. Rodriguez, our musician has been popular in far off South Africa starting in the 70’s. At the same time that Rodriguez gave up on his music in the United States. For decades South Africans played his music and longed to be able to meet this American star that pushed the boundaries of apartheid. Shop owner, Sugar, has spent years in Africa researching Rodriguez story, along with a few other men associated with his music. Sugar is picking up pieces of Rodriguez’s story with Sugar now knowing Rodriguez’s full name as Jesus “Sixto” Rodriguez. The outpouring of love from people who missed Rodriguez is overwhelming. Stories of how he affected their lives in such positive ways. And they all miss him... SPOILER BELOW!!!! You are watching this story and right smack in the middle, the director finally tells the watcher that Rodriguez is alive and well, living in Detroit, Michigan. What?!?! This was a great story. It is worth the watch. |
