Sengoku Basara has been one of the most explosive anime series I’ve had the pleasure of watching. In the first season I met the characters, discovered some history of Japan from the Sengoku era weaved throughout, become invested in the characters, and most importantly been entertained throughout. The animation was amazing and vibrantly colorful and the action was amazing.

In the second season a new villain was introduced, old characters were revealed and evolved, and the journey of some hit surprising twists. The second season was a bit slower then the first to get off the ground but by the time it was over my mind had been blown. I wanted more and I’m positive other fans did as well.

Sengoku Basara: The Last Party is every fanboys wish granted. We pick up where we left off, a relative peace has come to the land, old rivals have come to the end of their road, but like the last series, old characters have returned evolved and not quite ready to let go of their will to dominate.

Twists abound in this final installment of Sengoku Basara (though let’s hope it’s not) as the student becomes the master, a child becomes a man, and all the warriors of the land must come together to stop the blood soaked path of the Malevolent One. With unknown forces aiding this villain who knows what the Samurai Kings will face this time around. The answer will surprise you.

PICTURE QUALITY:
As the feature began I was worried. Had I put in the DVD by accident? Was this why there was so much grain, lack of detail and muted color? I’m not sure why the beginning of the feature looks like this but it doesn’t remain looking this way for long. At some point the picture comes alive with the familiar vibrant colors of the Sengoku Basara world fans are used to. Line definition is sharp and overall definition is strong in scenes where there are massive amounts of soldiers crossing paths or the odd object in the frame. Aside from that bizarre opening, as usual, Sengoku Basara doesn’t fail in picture quality.
