Title: The Summer House Edition: Digital Genre: Drama Starring: Robert Pattinson, Talulah Riley Director: Daisy Gili Studio: Shorts International Runtime: 13 Minutes Release Date: July 13, 2010 Format: DVD Notes: Available Globally on Itunes MPAA Rating: Rating: ( )Grade: F When a celebrity makes it big, be it music or film or whatever, chances are they came from somewhere and when their five minutes comes up everything they’ve ever done that no one cared about will see the light of day. Sometimes that’s a benefit to everyone involved in that certain something that was once nothing. Take for example first time director Daisy Gili and writer Ian Beck’s 2008 short film The Summer House which runs a whopping 13 minutes and features Robert Pattinson for say 3 minutes. With Pattinson’s obvious success in the Twilight franchise this short little number gets a new birth. So how to describe a 13 minute short film without giving anything away? Simple. I didn’t understand two seconds of it to give anything away. The film takes places in France in the summer of 69 revolving around a fragment of a relationship and the Moon Landing event. While there is probably some deep in-depth meaning correlating between the two events nothing comes to mind. The 13 minute run time allows for no character development, no explanation that can give you some perspective, and the flashy use of Pattinson’s name seems shameful to say the least. No substance other then what I presume is a personal reflection that may have meaning to the films writer. The film does have a site that offers up a full explanation of what this short is about. From what positivity I could draw from this lackluster short film the set, scenery, and costumes were nice. As always final judgment falls to you. Enjoy. |
