Title: The Wedding Date Starring: Debra Messing, Jack Davenport, Dermot Mulroney, Amy Adams, Sarah Parish Director: Clare Kilner Studio: Universal Runtime: 90 Minutes Release Date: August 16, 2005 Format: DVD MPAA Rating: Rating: ( )Grade: C Kat Ellis is on her way to her sisters wedding and the best man is her ex-fiancé. She wants nothing more than to make him jealous and wish he had never left her, so she hires an attractive escort from the Yellow Pages. Nick quickly wins over her family and friends and has many of the women flirting with him; but Kat is a little high-strung with the idea that she hired an escort. When long kept secrets come out Kat is devastated she has no one to turn to except her escort. First impression of this movie is that it is a run of the mill romantic comedy; but at the same time there is a huge chunk missing out of it. The plot of how Kat and Nick fall for each other is woefully misplaced. Without that the movie ends up feeling rushed and then ends in a tidy little package. Debra Messing also plays her typical “Grace” character, being slightly narcotic, clumsy, and a little dramatic. While there are some parts that are slightly charming and a few funny moments this is certainly not a must see. The DVD also features commentary with Debra Messing, deleted scenes, and Debra Messing telling funny stories about working on the film. |
