Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim have somewhat of a cult following with their Awesome Show on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim. The question is can what worked as an 11 minute comedy sketch show transition into a full length feature film? Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie is about to find out.

The film follows best friends Tim and Eric as they are given a billion dollars to make a film. Unfortunately for them, the producers aren’t too thrilled with the final product. Now the two must find a way to earn the money back or face the wrath of Hollywood. Their plan? Manage a rundown mall and hope to attract more visitors. Things are looking to go from bad to worse. And no, I’m not just talking about the plot of the film.

Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie goes far beyond the line of what typical audiences consider humor. Sex, drugs, and teenage poop jokes litter the film and add more to the shock value of the film than any coherent storyline.  It’s the kind of humor that immature stoner college kids would get a kick out of. For most other people, it’s simply disgusting.

The only decent redeeming feature of the film is its celebrity cameos. Will Ferrell, Zach Galifianakis, Jeff Goldblum, John C. Reilly and Will Forte all make an appearance in some fashion or another and most of the time, they’re hilarious. Unfortunately, the cameos don’t last long and then it’s back to the same boring and unimaginative scenarios.

Tim and Eric work best as a sketch show and not a full blown film. There’s only so much of their type of humor a person can handle and 90 minutes is way too much for anyone, even the most diehard of fans. The fact that they try and create an actual story rather than just an extended episode is another problem.  If the story was actually any good, the humor wouldn’t have been so bad. It’s a shame that both of them suffer immensely.

Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie won’t come anywhere close to that. The film’s already available in many Video on Demand markets so if you absolutely must see it, save the trip to the theaters and rent it from the comfort of your own home. At least then you’ll be able to change the channel when necessary.
