I had some real trouble with Aria The Scarlet Ammo. Not because it lacked in some pretty great action and some decent characters, but because I’ve been here before, quite literally, as of late.

The show is about a high school boy named Kinji who attends an assault school that teaches kids how to use guns, seeing as how the world has become such a violent place (go figure). One day Kinji finds himself in trouble and the only one who can save him is Aria, or so we thought. Turns out that Kinji can go from dork to bad ass in a heartbeat, but only when he gets turned on. In a turn of events Kinji saves Aria and Aria knows she has to have this weird dude as her partner.

Unfortunately Aria is one of those run of the mill Harem shows. Lots of fans service, some action that includes the usual, and a story that’s been told quite a few times. Sure, it might not be the same story exactly, but when it comes down to it, it’s basically the same old story. Boy meets girl, then girls, then is fawned over, then finds danger, then love, then danger, then love, then- well, you get it. If you’ve ever seen shows like Tenchi, Sekirei, Rosario +Vampire, Shuffle, and so on and so forth then you’ve seen this one pretty much.

Again, it’s not a terrible show. I liked some of it. Some of the characters were pretty cool, like Kinji in awesome mode. Some of the romance stuff was funny and cute. Even some of the action bits were exciting. I’m just not throwing points at the release for originality in its concept. So how did it look on Blu-Ray?

PICTURE AND AUIDIO QUALITY:
To be completely honest, I found this to be another release from Funimation that felt very much under par. Color is a bit weak at times, line detail is good but not the quality of which I’ve grown accustomed to from Funi, and overall definition seemed to be muddled by a soft texture in the overall picture. Like the series, it’s not the worst thing I’ve ever seen, but it is far from the best. Audio quality is as usual on par.
