Show: Chrome Shelled Regios Season/Volume: Part One Genre: Anime Starring: Monica Rial, Todd Haberkorn, Brina Palencia Studio: Funimation Runtime: 300 minutes Release Date: February 8, 2011 Format: DVD Discs: 2 Rating: ( )Grade: A It's the future and the world as we know it has become too polluted to live in. As a result, cities are forced to live in bubbled domes that protect them from the harsh atmosphere and deadly contaminoids that populate the Earth. Chrome Shelled Regios follows the adventures of Layfon Alseif, a student at the Military Academy with hidden abilities locked deep within him. Like all the others at the Military Academy, Layfon is gifted with the ability to use Kei, a power that allows users to perform powerful attacks, defense techniques, or psychokinetic abilities. Even though Layfon is new to the school, his abilities are far greater than the others but he still has a lot to learn and find his rightful place in the world. While the anime is action-oriented, it's not as you would first imagine. Part One mainly focuses on introducing all the characters and developing them. We learn all about the Military Academy and it's purpose. Layfon joins the 17th Platoon and we see how they all get along (or don't get along). There isn't as much man versus monster scenes as you would expect from an anime of this type. Don't fret though, as the conflicts that go on within the school are more than enough to keep things interesting. You do get to see Layfon in all his powerful glory defeat some contaminoids as well, and the battles do not disappoint. Chrome Shelled Regios is a very story-driven anime that has some great action scenes and keeps you coming back for more after each episode. Bonus features include the typical trailers and textless credits but the anime is well worth the price. Definitely give it a shot if you have the opportunity. |
