Behind-The-Scenes Featurette (19 Minutes. Actually a pretty interesting bonus feature that shows how the show is recorded and the people behind the sound. Ever wonder about footsteps or doors creaking open and shut? Then this one is for you.

My first go round with New Tricks was reviewing the fourth season of the show. I didn’t like it then. My thought was that it just didn’t fall into my age demographic and that it was geared more towards the senior demographic, the show having been set up around four older characters ranging between the early forties to the late fifties, I presume. Now that I’ve had the chance to watch the show again, and this time I went in knowing what to expect, I found it a bit more entertaining.

New Tricks: Season Six makes no real change in formula. The group still hangs about the elderly references and they use their experience and know how, before the arrival of technology, to solve age old crimes their way. Of course the cases were different and, in my opinion, far more fun. For example, in one episode the team begins investigating the murder of a man who may or may not have had himself a close encounter of the alien kind. Then the world of New Tricks gives a more expansive look at a couple of its characters with an episode where family comes into play.

Chances are if I were to go back and have a look at the fourth season I’d probably find that it is just as enjoyable as this season, maybe. Season Six does have its moments where I had to shake my head and shrug, see Gerry socking a former gambling enforcer in the face, but for the most part translation between technology and the new police force in contrast with the teams old school rule book garners more then a few laughs without becoming to obvious. Most of the episodes have pretty good mysteries that had me guessing all the way to the end, save for one or two, and so in the end the show is one that I would definitely recommend if you’re into British Crime Mysteries.
