Show: Squidbillies Season/Volume: 2 Genre: Comedy Starring: Daniel McDevitt, Dana Snyder, Bobby Ellerbee Studio: Turner Home Ent Runtime: 230 minutes Release Date: April 21, 2009 Format: DVD Discs: 2 Rating: ( )Grade: D Adult Swim has had some wild and crazy shows in its past and Squidbillies is another you can put on that list. Currently in its third season, the show follows the life of a family of squids living and interacting amongst humans. Much along the same lines as Aqua Teen Hunger Force, it showcases loads of violence, language, and randomness. The show is animated in a roughly drawn cartoon sort of way. It works well with the hillbilly theme presented and has a much old school feel to it. Unfortunately, that is about all I got from Squidbillies. There isn't really much to like about them. Unlike the laughable ATHF, Squidbillies is more nonsense and can't hold my attention for too long. Perhaps that's why each episode is only around 11 minutes. Another thing is that the characters pretty much all act the same. They are all hostile squids that do what they please all the time, except for the Sherriff of course. There isn't much keeping this show together. It's too random to be considered mainstream but not crazy enough to gather a cult following. I don't think I could stand watching it for another minute. The extras are the usual commentaries and behind the scenes footage with a few more goodies but nothing that special. I wouldn't waste you time with this show, it's not worth it. |
