If you have never heard of this show, its for good reason.
The Feathered Serpent is BBC television show from the 1970's that is now being released on DVD.
For anybody less than well versed with British television, then this show will be completely foreign to you. The most notable person involved Patrick Troughton, who is known for being on Doctor Who at the time. And for everyone who hasn't heard of this historical drama, you certainly aren't missing much.
Feathered Serpent is a political drama taking place in Mexico during the Aztec time, but isn't really based on any historical fact. You wouldn't really know this is based in Mexico, since all the actors are Brit's with tans and heavy eye liner. it looks more like a Rocky Horror spin off in older times rather than a historical drama. To further support that theory, the costumes range from Avant garde to plain gay. Honestly, some of the clothes guy's were wearing looked like bejeweled tank tops.
Regarding the acting, it ranged from passable to porno bad. The porno feeling also passed over to the production design. Especially with the lighting, where each scene looked like a porno or a soap opera.
So to say that Feathered Serpent is a lost treasure is a massive overstatement. But I'm sure there are those out there who enjoy this. But for everyone else who hasn't heard of this show, go ahead and let it slip out of your memory.
As far as DVD quality goes, it looks just as it did back in the 70's. There has been no upgrading of picture or sound quality. The only special feature is a documentary on Mesoamerican civilizations.
