Hidden in the woods there sits a village that’s inhabitants are magical creatures that like nothing more to do than have fun. It’s the Smufs that live in this village working each day to get their chores finished so they can go out on adventures and have fun. While having fun and going on adventures the Smurfs must deal with Gargamel, the one who wants only to destroy the Smurfs. But here, the Smurfs go on their adventures to have fun or help out friends and other Smufs when they can.
SMURFING FUN IN THIS ADVENTURE: The Smurfs: A Magical Smurf Adventure takes 10 episodes from season 2 of the cartoon The Smurfs. Yep, those little blue guys and one girl are at it in this DVD set where they go off on their adventures causing trouble and fixing the trouble they cause. These 10 episodes are pretty much the same formula where the Smurfs get in some sort of trouble and have to get out of it, even if it’s caused by themselves or by Gargamel. Each of the episodes start off with the theme song, with is a very cheerful, upbeat song, which pretty much is enough to show you what the Smurfs are all about.
As I said, the episodes are all pretty much following the same format where the Smurfs are having some fun, get into a situation, and then somehow get out of it with some Smurfly advice or help from Papa Smurf or their newly found friends that happen to be knights. Watching all 10 of the episodes it’s easy to become a little bored with the show because of the similarity the plots have with each other. However, what keeps the boredom down is that the Smurfs are a fun show to watch. Just listening to the theme song will make the happy, high energy, and all the fun that’s pumped into the song it’s hard not to get infected with it. This pretty much goes for the rest of the episodes making it hard not to have fun while watching it.
Though I did like watching these episodes, it’s almost a double edged sword because it is easy to become a little bored with the same thing again for 10 episodes but also have fun because of this same formula. Not only that but there’s the signiture catch phrase that’s used in every epsiode which actually changes but it’s the word Smurf being used as a noun or verb to express themselves. Hearing them say lets go smurfing, or it was a smurfing fun time, and such similar things can be fun and helps the show by making it fun and it also gets infectous where I was wanting to say it, but after awhile it also gets a little stale having the same thing over and over again. Still, this is a good, fun, well intended show that is fun to watch and I think kids can enjoy it today as much as they did when it was first aired, and for the adults that watched it when it first aired it will bring back a lot of smurfy memories.
