When I was a young kid (8-10), I absolutely loved baseball. I ate, drank, and slept it. Collected the baseball cards, memorized stats, watched the games, you name it. I dreamt about playing professionally and naturally, signed up for a little league team .While I had aspirations for being a pitcher, I got stuck in right field...oh and I never hit anything better than a single. Granted, I hadn't gotten glasses yet and I didn't realize at the time that, without them, I had no depth perception. I guess that might have had something to do with my poor performance, but by that point, I had already moved onto basketball.

All that to say that spending time with this set was like taking a walk down nostalgia lane. I wouldn't call myself a baseball fan at this point in my life, but I do still have an appreciation for the game that goes all the way back to that little kid growing up in the 80s. This is a four-disc set (the regular edition is only two DVDs) that traces the history of baseball through the focal point of the World Series. It's a terrific little collection, narrated by Bob Costas and featuring a ton of archival footage and interviews with players, coaches, and journalists. It might not be exhaustive enough for a hardcore fan, but it's a very solid overview of a lot of great history.

The first two discs are the centerpiece of the set, going highlighting every World Series chronologically. The main feature is professionally produced and presented. It looks sharp. Discs two and three are collections of random footage, bloopers, bonus features, etc. The focus on these discs is the more raw footage, presented in a simple but effective manner. If you're going to get this set, I'd recommend springing for the four disc version. You definitely get more bang for your buck with a lot more content. While I'm not as big a fan as I once was, this is a fantastic tribute to the greatest series of games in our national pastime. If you're a baseball fan, picking this up should be a no-brainer.
