Creed's Ryan Coogler to direct Black Panter

Ryan Coogler will direct Marvel's Black Panter, the studio has announced. Coogler's previous directing credits include 2013's Fruitvale Station and last year's Creed, both of which star Michael B. Jordan.

Black Panter will be released on February 16, 2018 and stars Chadwick Boseman in the titular role. Black Panter will be making his on screen debut in Captain America: Civil War later this year, however.

“We are fortunate to have such an esteemed filmmaker join the Marvel family,” said producer Kevin Feige. “The talents Ryan showcased in his first two films easily made him our top choice to direct Black Panther. Many fans have waited a long time to see Black Panther in his own film, and with Ryan we know we’ve found the perfect director to bring T’Challa’s story to life.”

Creed, the seventh film in the Rocky franchise, has been extremely well received by critics and fans alike. On Sunday, Sylvester Stallone won a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor for his performance. Fruitvale Station was also well received and won multiple accolades.
